Artistic swimming, previously synchronized swimming, at first glance looks like an effortless sport where the athletes have glossy, gelled hair, fancy bathing suits and extravagant makeup. When you look closer, you will see that there is much more to synchro. It requires strength, endurance, flexibility, grace, teamwork, artistry and exceptional breath control. Swimmers wear nose clips while they are upside down in the water performing incredible movements. The use of underwater speakers allows the swimmers to hear the music clearly while they execute their routines with split-second timing that is critical to the sport. And all of this is done without touching the bottom of the pool. In the water artistic swimmers achieve the aquatic endurance of speed swimmers, the precision and power of gymnastics and the artistry of dance.

Do I need to be a great swimmer to join?
